Nominations (CRCs)

Next competition – April 26, 2010
Anticipated decision date – October 2010

Please note that if the CRC candidate is living outside Canada (this includes Canadian citizens who are working abroad), a nomination application may be submitted to CRC at any time during the year.

Nominees for Tier 1 positions must be full professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Alternatively, if they come from outside the academic sector, nominees must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels.

Nominees for Tier II positions are intended to be emerging scholars. They must be assistant or associate professors, or possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels. Universities must justify nominating to a Tier II Chair a professor or a researcher who is more than ten years from the highest degree at the time of nomination. A justification must be submitted by the university to explain why (e.g., clinical training, years in industry, breaks in career) the nominee is more than ten years from his/her highest degree.

There are two main criteria used in evaluation CRC nominations:

  • quality of the nominee and quality of the proposed program of research
  • quality of the institutional environment, institutional commitment, and fit of the proposed Chair with the university’s Strategic Research Plan

Please note that all CRC nominations require Faculty and University endorsement.  If you have any questions regarding a CRC nomination, please contact your ROADS representative.
