CIHR Community-based Primary Healthcare Webinar

Tuesday, May 21, 2013
11:00am – 12:00pm

CIHR is presenting an information webinar to learn about the CIHR Signature Initiative in Community-based Primary Healthcare (CBPHC). This Signature Initiative supports highly innovative approaches to improving the delivery of appropriate and high-quality community-based primary healthcare to Canadians.

CBPHC covers the broad range of primary prevention (including public health) and primary care services within the community, including health promotion and disease prevention; the diagnosis, treatment, and management of chronic and episodic illness; rehabilitation support; and end of life care. CBPHC involves the coordination and provision of integrated care provided by a range of health providers, including nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians, public health practitioners, physicians and others in a range of community settings including people's homes, healthcare clinics, physicians' offices, public health units, hospices, and workplaces. It is delivered in a way that is patient- and population-centred and responsive to economic, social, cultural and gender differences.

The initiative's goals are to:

  • improve access to appropriate community-based primary healthcare;
  • enhance the patient experience; and
  • contribute to better health outcomes.

The webinar provides an opportunity to learn about current and upcoming opportunities, ask questions, and share your input with CIHR Scientific Directors;  Dr. Robyn Tamblyn (
Institute of Health Services and Policy Research) and Dr. Nancy Edwards (Institute of Population and Public Health), co-leads of the Signature Initiative in CBPHC. The webinar will focus on the recent funding of the CBPHC Innovation Teams and upcoming plans for the National CBPHC Network.

The webinar is scheduled for
