Stage 2: Establishment of a research account

Stage 2: Establishment of a research account

The following information will be required to approve the opening of a research account.

  1. A complete copy of the proposal, including all required appendices and CVs, applicable to grants.
  2. A completed Application Approval Form attached to every application and request for account submitted to ROADS.
  3. The Notice of Award from the funding source (applicable to grants) or a draft contract or agreement to be negotiated. Accounts will not be opened until negotiation on contracts or agreements are complete and signed off by McMaster University.
  4. The sponsor's written terms and conditions if not readily available.
  5. Any required certificates, i.e. for human subjects, animals, biohazards, etc. The lack of these certificates is the most common cause for delay in fund openings; to avoid unnecessary delays, please submit certificates with the GAAP or MILO Checklist at the time of submission.
  6. Once all requirements are met, ROADS will generate an Award Account Notification (AAN) document and proceed with authorizing McMaster’s Research Finance Office to open an account for the project. A copy of the AAN is distributed to the Principal Investigator, the Director of Administration for the Faculty, the designated Research Finance Accountant, and the designated ROADS Senior Advisor. The distribution list may vary by program and faculty: please consult with ROADS for faculty specific details.
